Madrid in October 2025: concerts, heritage and tapas

October in Madrid brings free concerts, Hispanic Day celebrations and tapas around the neighbourhoods. Here are the essentials and how to make the most of them if you're staying near Gran Vía.

1.- Hispanidad 2025 — 3rd to 12th October

Ten days of music and culture with stages across the city centre. This year features free concerts and activities at Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Colón, Plaza de España and Madrid Río. On 12th October, don’t miss “LOS40 Hispanidad Pop” at Puerta del Sol (19:00–21:00). Check the official programme for schedules and artists, which are updated closer to the date.

2.- Madrid Otra Mirada (MOM) — 16th to 19th October

The City Council and dozens of institutions open unique buildings for free visits (advance booking required on the MOM website or the specific venue’s site). Locations like Instituto Cervantes, AECID or La Nave offer limited slots.

Heads up: bookings usually open on 2nd October at 10:00; log in 1–2 minutes early and have alternatives ready in separate tabs. There are also activities without booking (marked as free access).

Tip: plan two options per time slot (Plan A and Plan B). If A is fully booked, switch to B.

3.- Tapapiés — 16th to 26th October

Lavapiés comes alive with tapas and street concerts over two weekends. More than 100 venues participate with creative offerings, including vegan/vegetarian options. Check the official map and concert schedule to avoid the busiest areas if crowds aren’t your thing.

** From Gran Vía: Take L1 to Tirso de Molina or L3 to Lavapiés and explore from there. Bring small cash for quicker transactions.
  • Open House Madrid (late September → early October). If you arrive a few days early, plan free architecture tours across the city: iconic venues, guided visits and routes. openhousemadrid.org
  • Museums and cinema: take advantage of our free museum routes and end the night with a session at the Filmoteca.
  • Booking and punctuality: MOM slots open at fixed times; log in with an active session and have your card ready if required (most are free but need registration). Instituto Cervantes
  • Layers: warm days, cool nights; bring a light sweatshirt and comfortable trainers.
  • Getting around: most places are within walking distance from Gran Vía. If you’re out late, Metro runs until 01:30 + EMT night buses.
