Sunset Spots Walking Route Near Gran Vía, Madrid

There are a few things you can always count on in Madrid: stunning golden hours, streets that rise and fall like waves, and viewpoints that leave you speechless… for free. If you’re near Gran Vía, you can link up the best sunset spots in a short walk, finishing with the blue hour and neon lights. 1) Plaza de España (open views to the west)

Head out from Gran Vía towards Plaza de España. The space opens up with wide skies, trees, and the outline of the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) to your left. This isn’t a formal “viewpoint” but rather a high point with a clear perspective and benches to sit on. If there are high clouds, stay an extra 10 minutes after sunset; the sky often lights up after dusk.

2) Jardines de Sabatini (postcard views of the Palace)

Walk down Bailén and take a look at the Jardines de Sabatini, in front of the north façade of the Palacio Real. 3) Templo de Debod (the classic sunset spot)

Continue west to the Templo de Debod. Photographically, this is the highlight of the route: an unobstructed horizon towards the Casa de Campo and pools that offer reflections if it’s not too windy. Access to the exterior esplanade is free (always check the official information for visiting the interior or any closure notices).
